Google Apps Setup

Notes
- Ensure you enable IMAP access for each account before trying to configure your email client.
Google Apps Services
Google Groups — Allows you to setup and maintain a public mailing list where they do all the work.
Google Notebook — allows you to keep track of information 'clipped' from a webpage including images and text. Doesn't seem to support grabbing the url which is odd. See Google Notebook FAQ
Google Page Creator — allows you to create custom web pages with 100mb of space. You can add Gadgets thought they look a weeeee bit ugly. Probably good for anyone wanting a simple site for free.
Google Advanced Search Operators
Append your Google search with the following words to get more detailed results. See Google: Operators page.
Alternate Queries
- cache:searchlink — get the version of the page currently cached by Google:
- cache:searchlink searchterm — highlight the searchterm on the cached page:
- link:searchlink — list the webpages with links to the specified page:
- related:searchlink — list similar wepages to specified page:
- info:searchlink — show info Google has stored about the specified page including links to all the operator searches above:
Retrieve Other Info
- define:searchterm — definition for specified term including related phrases:
- stocks:tickersymbol — show stock exchange information by typing the ticker symbol:
Advanced Searches
You can access most of these via the Google: Advanced Search page.
- site:searchsite — find all the results from a specified website:
- site:searchsite searchterm — find results from specified site and specified term:
- intitle: — will restrict results to pages containing the query terms in their page title:
- allintitle:searchterm — will restrict results to pages containing all the query terms in their page title:
- inurl:searchterm — will restrict results to pages containing the query terms in their url:
- allinurl:searchterm — restrict results to pages with all the query terms in url:
Configuring Google Apps for IMAP access
- Login to the gMail/Google Apps account
- Click Settings on top-right of page.
- Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
- Select Enable IMAP and click Save Changes.

- Open your Email client — Entourage.
- Select Tools > Accounts and click New.
- Set the Email address and Account to —
username@your_domain.com - Set the IMAP Server to —
imap.gmail.com - Set the password
- Open the advanced options popup
- Enable SSL
- Set the port to 993
- Set the SMTP Server to —
smtp.gmail.com - Open the advanced options popup:
- enable SSL (STARTTLS)
- Set the port to 465 or 587
- Enable Authentication: Yes
- Click on the Options tab:
- Tick Send commands to server simultaneously.
- Tick Always download complete message bodies and In Inbox only.
- Tick Partially retrieve messages....
- Tick Live Sync and Only connect to Inbox and Connect on launch.
- Tick check for unread messages.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Tick on all the store message on server options.
- Tick Move messages to deleted items folder and Empty on quit.
