Applescript
- AppleScript: Control your Mac with an e-mail — TUAW tutorial to shut down, restart, and open Mac applications remotely with AppleScript and Mail.
Backup
Local and online backup services. The best easiest is probably .Mac.
- Apple .Mac: Backup — probably the easiest solution. Freeware version is useless as limited to 100mb of data. Paid is £120 .Mac annual subscription.
- Super Duper — simple and easy to use local backup system. Freeware basic, $27.99 advanced which give you incremental backups (save time). Excellent user guide with detailed instructions. Does full system or User settings/docs only backups of entire volumes. NEED TO TEST DRIVE THIS.
- iBackup — simple to use backup/restore utility. Shareware $25. Allows for WebDAV backups to remote servers. Online Help Pages. NEED TO TEST DRIVE THIS.
- Crashplan — automatic remote backup to their servers or to another computer. One off fee or monthly subscription.
