About This Tutorial
This tutorial guides you through setting the Microsoft Word Normal Template which is the file on which all new Word documents are based. You can access this tutorial in 3 formats:

Setting the Normal Template
New Document
|
Open a new MS Word document. |
|
Select Style
|
Select Format > Style from the menu to load the Style Dialog. |
|
Set Style
|
Set the Normal, Headings, Header, Footer and any custom Styles to your tastes and Apply. |
|
Test Styles
|
Try out your new Styles and edit until their perfect. |
|
Delete Content
|
Then, delete all the content from the file and set the remaining paragraph mark to Normal' style.
Note: If you have text which you always include in every document, such as a custom header or footer, then leave this is the template. |

Save Template
|
Select File > Save As from the menu. |
|
Name
|
Set the document name to Normal |
|
Format
|
Set the document Format to Document Template. |
|
Remove File Extension
|
Untick the Append file extension box. |
|
Where
|
So it's easy to find, save the file to your Desktop. |
|
Save
|
Click Save. |
|
Quit
|
You now need to quit Microsoft Word in order to reset the Normal template. |

Open Template Folder
|
Open the folder Applications/Microsoft Office 2001/Templates/. |
|
Replace Normal Template
|
Drag the new file Normal from your desktop to replace the old version in your Microsoft Templates folder.
Note: Just to be safe, you Should make a backup copy of your Normal template before you overwrite it with the new one. |

Replace
|
When prompted select Replace.
Hint: Save a copy of your new Normal template for future reference as this file is constantly being overwritten and therefore may become corrupt over time. |
|
Relaunch Word
|
Relaunch Word and when you open a new document it will be based on your updated template. |
|
All Done
|
That's it. You should now have a new Microsoft Word Normal Template installed.
